Sidewalk catwalk Broadway

In July I visited New York City and was very fortunate in a way, that there were lots of special fashion exhibitions and shows I could visit. Although I am sure there is always plenty to see and do anyway. One of the special projects was Sidewalk Catwalk - a series of mannequins put on Broadway between Herald Square and Times Square. The event was on between July 24th until September 3rd. Many famous names created a special outfit, to stand the test of time and weather conditions. Designers including: Diane Von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Tommy Hilfiger, Michel Kors and Jason Wu to name just a few. In the end all the mannequins were auctioned and all the proceeds went to charity. In the following couple of weeks I'll be bringing you pictures of most of the display. It was very inspiring and I'm grateful to have seen it live.

New favourite mascara?

I am a big fan of MAC make-up. There's a reason why most make-up artists swear by it and it gets used backstage at probably every fashion show. All the products have great texture, last well and the selection of shades is incomparable.
I was given a sample of Clinique's High Definition mascara. First of all because all Clinique's products are hypoallergenic and fragrance free, which is good for my sensitive eyes and second of all simply because my mascara was running out. I got hooked straight away. It lasts well and doesn't irritate my eyes. It makes my lashes look fuller and do I dare say it, my eyes irresistible. It costs decent £14.50 and is available on high street. They say your eyes are the windows to your soul, so why not make them your best feature. With this mascara it's an easy task!

Tribute to the master

I am planning another trip to New York, this time for spring, and was excited to hear about the upcoming exhibition in the MET museum. The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art will honor the memory and vision of the extraordinary talent  Alexander McQueen through a retrospective exhibit opening May 4th 2011. If you read my blog regulary, you probably know that I'm a big fan of his work, and was shocked and deeply saddend by his unexpected suicide earlier this year. I can't wait to see this 100-piece exhibit, that is promising the show the best of his career, starting at Givenchy, his own  label, and pieces from a show that were revealed after his death (read more about it here). Of course you can expect a review from me after I've seen it. For now I'm bringing you a few pics of famous pieces created by the creative genius.

Accessory of the week

Those who read my blog regularly will know, that I'm a big fan of statement jewelry. Be it necklaces or cocktail rings, they can transform a dull outfit in an instant! I treated myself this week with something very special to me from net-a-porter.com. This YSL arty ring sold out before and you can expect it happening again! I love the shape and of course the pink stone. I've been looking for the perfect pink ring for a while and I just fell in love with this one instantly. It goes well with my new hair colour and scored me quite a few compliments already. It's a win win situation. So if you only buy one thing this week, make it YSL arty ring. They come in different colours and I dare you not to find one you love. Or put it on your Christmas wish list to make it extra special.

Selfridges garage sale

Good news for bargain hunters. After much success the first time around, Selfridges are hosting another garage sale this sunday from 12 to 4 pm. And as you can imagine it's not like any other garage sale. With items donated by famous names from fashion, music, sport and entertainment it's an event not to be missed. Among stall holders you can see Yasmin Le Bon, Louise Redknapp, Trinny Woodhall to name just a few. You can guarantee to find some treasures for yourself or as a Christmas present and with all proceeds going to charity Mothers4Children, you don't have to feel guilty if you get a bit carried away. Doing good deed never felt better.
