Couture week

The Paris couture week is in full swing. So far we have seen some amazing collections. I am a big fan of couture, especially this time of year, as you can expect lot of Oscar-worthy gowns. And we have seen quite a few. Below are few of my favourte looks, but there were so many. I loved Givenchy for all the detailing and a lot of backless numbers. I think exposed back is very sexy without looking cheap. Giambattista Valli's collection was very feminine and so wearable. I want it all! Armani Prive was proper couture. I expect to see a lot of their gowns on the red carpet. Chanel was pretty, but not really couture, I thought. Saying that I am a big Karl Lagerfeld fan and love everything he does. Had it been RTW collection than it would be more appropriate. Apart from everything else, his jewelled tights were beautiful!
Have a stylish day.

Halloween is coming

How the time flies.. We're already half way through October, meaning Halloween is just round the corner. There will be lots of parties around and with it a perfect opportunity to dress up and get creative. In case you're stuck for ideas I'm bringing you a little inspiration from one of Carine Roitfield's parties - The Vampire Ball. Vampires are tres cool at the moment, what with Twilight and many TV series, so now is your chance to show your take on the "trend". Perfect time to be playful with your make up ala Roitfield ladies ( both Carine and Julia otherwise kept it quite simple and chic) stand out with interesting headwear like Anna dello Russo with Giles' SS 12 swan and don't forget little details. Olivier Theyskens went for colored contact lenses, whilst Abbey Lee Kershaw picked fake teeth to finish off her outfit. I'm also loving Ciara in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, whose fake blood is cool enough.
Looking at these got me well excited for Hallowen and I'm already planning my outfit. Are you? Are you going to any parties?
Have a stylish day.

A short story

Versace

It was during Milan Fashion Week whilst watching the Versace show live stream, that I first decided I need to get myself a pair of shorts. They have become such a wardrobe staple, there's really no excuse not to one at least a pair. And with the fact that the possibilities are endless when it comes to shorts, I was hooked. They are so easy to dress up or down according to your needs, they are really a no-brainer.
So I started paying more attention to shorts during Paris Fashion Week, to check out the cool Parisian options. You can go for totally casual look as seen at Dsquared2 or Isabel Marant, smart casual with Dries Van Noten (the printed ones are a must have), I absolutely love the Chloe way and Givenchy version seems more luxurious, perfect for nights out. And if you're brave enough why not pick futuristic hot pants ala Balenciaga. Love the idea of shorts? Well there's plenty more options so I'm sure there is something for everyone. Let me know your favourite type.
Have a stylish day.

Tribute to the master

I am planning another trip to New York, this time for spring, and was excited to hear about the upcoming exhibition in the MET museum. The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art will honor the memory and vision of the extraordinary talent  Alexander McQueen through a retrospective exhibit opening May 4th 2011. If you read my blog regulary, you probably know that I'm a big fan of his work, and was shocked and deeply saddend by his unexpected suicide earlier this year. I can't wait to see this 100-piece exhibit, that is promising the show the best of his career, starting at Givenchy, his own  label, and pieces from a show that were revealed after his death (read more about it here). Of course you can expect a review from me after I've seen it. For now I'm bringing you a few pics of famous pieces created by the creative genius.
Have a stylish day.
