Badgley Mischka

SS 2011

SS 2010

SS 2010

I promised to bring you a post about the designer duo Badgley Mischka and as there is no time like now, here you go. Behind the name and of course the designs are Mark Badgley and James Mischka, who met at Parsons School for design and created their label in 1988. Since then they caused stir in the fashion world, their dresses appearing on covers on most prestigious magazines.
"Our style harks back to the glamorous Hollywood of the fourties" says Mischka. "The Badgley Mischka signature style is simple, streamlined and thoroughly elegant." (taken from their website.)
And may I just add its timeless. That's why I love it. And I'm in a good company. Badgley Mischka is popular red carpet choice of many celebrities and presidential daughters, worn by the  likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet.. The list is endless.
But that wasn't enough for them. Since launching they started designing fabulous wedding gowns, footwear, handbags and a contemporary collection Mark + James. And it's all as popular as the main line. Love it all!
Have a stylish day.

Tala Samman - the girl behind the blog

If you haven't heard of Tala Samman yet, make sure you check out her blog myfashdiary very soon. It's becoming a must-read for every fashionista! Tala is a 20 year old student from Dubai, currently getting a degree at London College of Fashion (that's where I met her couple of years ago). At such a young age she's already accomplished quite a lot, getting front row seats at London and Paris fashion weeks, attending press days and store opening launches and so on and reporting all about it on her blog. What I love the most are her regular Look of the day. I've picked some of my favourites, but have a look at them all. She describes her style bohemian (70s inspired) and that's what I like on her best. She has been photographed by Vanessa Jackman and spotted on many street style blogs. So if you haven't heard of her yet don't despair, I'm sure you will very soon. A lot. She is the loveliest person and despite her deadlines and busy schedule, she agreed to answer few questions for me. Enjoy.
Have a stylish day.

• You're a full time student, fashion blogger and have other projects on the go as well. How do you find time for it all?
I can probably say I'm pretty organised with time management and tend to avoid wasting time - I'm pretty ambitious too... I think that's why it works well :)

• What motivates you/drives you forward?
The love and passion for what I do. If I didn't have that, I wouldn't be driven to work hard.

• What has been the fashion highlight for you this year?
Probably a front row seat at Chanels show!

• What are your ambitions/ what would you like to achieve in the fashion industry?
The list would be endless... I love trying out different angles in the fashion industry because I'm a student and its the time to experiment!

• Have you got any role models in the industry?
Natalie Massenet and Kelly Cutrone to name a few

• And finally what is one thing in your closet you couldn't live without?
My biker jacket!

Kate Moss - from model to style icon

Third post of my style icon's feature goes to Kate Moss. Now thinking about it, maybe she should have been first. Although there is no order in which way I'm gonna introduce who I consider style icons, Kate is definitely at the top of the list. Turning from skinny teenage model discovered by the late Corine Day, her career reached stratosferic heights. She was named the best dressed by Vogue. Not only she gets paid loads of money for ad campaigns, she still once in a while walk the catwalk for the likes of Marc Jacobs or Alexander McQueen, she had a very succesful string of collections of Topshop, which she decided to stop now, but won fans all over the world, has  a perfume under her name and the list continues. Everything she touches turns into gold. And not even the infamous cocaine story could harm her in any way. No. She managed to come out as a winner even back then. It's her personality people admire but especially her style. Whether it's her festival fashion that gets copied all over the world or her every day choices she can do no wrong. Let's wish her continuous success and get inspired by her.
Have a stylish day.

Sidewalk Catwalk pic #24

By Niyati Karwa/ Emily Saunders from Parsons School for design
It's the last picture from Broadway's Sidewalk Catwalk. I saved what I thought was the best to the last. I love how original and creative this dress is. And will definitely stand the test of time plus is perfect for any weather conditions that summer in New York could have brought. Well done guys. I believe you have a great career ahead.
Have a stylish day.

Victoria Beckham - from posh spice to fashion designer

It's the second day of my style feature and today I decided to dedicate a post to Victoria Beckham. Not only has David Beckham been in the news thanks to the world cup bid, Victoria is a star of her own and a sought after designer. I've mostly liked her style, although in her WAG era, she may have done a few mistakes. I like how her designs and clothes she wears are timless, simple with attention to detail. Long are the days of chubby posh spice. I like the fact she changes her hair styles a lot and how she puts her outfits together. She has transformed into a true fashionista and a respected designer. See my preview of her AW 10 collection.
Have a stylish day.

Emma Watson - from Hermione to fashionista

For my first style icon I picked Emma Watson. I like most of her fashion choices and think she is a great ambassador of British fashion. Now the last Harry Potter film has come out (part 1), she is promoting the movie and you can see her everywhere. And I can easily understand why she's so popular. She's turned from geeky Hermione to a sexy movie star, she's been on covers of major magazines including Vogue, modeling for Burberry (Christopher Bailey designed few outfits especially for her) and is fashion show's front row darling. Look again at her Vogue Italia shoot, which I love, here. But that's not enough for her. She's studying in America for a degree. Beauty and brain, with a promising career ahead. Jealous? Me?..
Have a stylish day.
